<BODY style=\"FONT-SIZE: 9pt; MARGIN: 5px; FONT-FAMILY: gulim; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #fff\"> \"With work experience, no worries about getting a job!\" [January 20, 2009] Even in times of difficulty to find a job, students of the Yeungnam University Global Business Project Team has no worries for finding a job. Because they are ready with work experience through industry-academic cooperation, large conglomerates are looking to recruit them. Yeungnan University GB Project Team has been led by Professor Gi-hyeong Kim of the School of International Economics and Business, started with 17 students in 2003. They were selected in their 2nd semester of the sophomore year and for 2 years until their first semester in their senior year they were trained in trade and English. There are now 40 students in the 5th and 6th teams. The GB Project Team is different from other clubs that focus simply on improving English skills and acquiring certificates of qualification. They focus on improving industry-academic relations with domestic and foreign companies, while participating in actual projects of local companies in order to get on-hands training. There were a total of 60 projects that the GB Project Team worked on with companies for the past 3 years. Roughly, they are involved in 20 projects per year. The types of projects that they take part in are quite diverse. Starting from translating documents, they are also involved with overseas site investigations, contacting and consulting buyers as well as other complex trade work such as finalizing patent contracts. Results of such projects are highly praised by the companies as well. According to Professor Gi-hyeon Kim(50), the reason why they focus on practical work experience is because, \"after speaking with HR representatives from companies, I learned that they prefer applicants with work experience and internship experience.\" He added, \"It\'s obvious that companies will prefer human resources with foreign language abilities and work experience, rather than picking students based on the name of their school.\" Such work-experience based education has become a key for opening the door to employment. Students of the GB Project Team have been employed by the companies which their wanted. Of the 80 members of the GB Project Team that have graduated or are expecting to graduate in February, 59 have found employment at companies such as the Korea International Trade Association, Samsung, CJ, STX, Yuhan, Incheon Airport Corporation, Kukmin, Shinhan, Foreign Exchange, Hana, Daegu Banks and Nonghyup, for a whopping employment rate of 73.8%. Jang Sung-hwan (26, School of International Economics and Business, senior), who is expecting to graduate in February, has been picked up by Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance and went to the company orientation. Even in the worse of times for employment, he had worries, though they were joyful worries. The regional largest automobile parts company accepted his application at the end of last year and a interrelated company of SK Group also asked him to come in for a final interview, but he chose to stay with Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance. He chose the company because having to meet many different people and taking on new challenges fit his personality. He stated, \"I got the opportunity to utilize what I learned because of the work experience with the GB Project Team\" and he also added, \"Since I got the job I wanted, I will work even harder in order to live up to the honor of the GB Project Team.\"

<BODY style=\"FONT-SIZE: 9pt; MARGIN: 5px; FONT-FAMILY: gulim; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #fff\"> Contribution in establishing labor-management-civil-government partnership and establishing a culture of cooperation [December 24, 2008] Professor Hyo-soo Lee of Yeungnam Univeristy (57, School of Economics and Finance, 13th Yeungnam University president-elect) was awarded the \'Iron Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit\' for his contribution to establishing labor-management-civil-government partnership and establishing a culture of cooperation. The Ministry of Labor held the \'2008 Labor Win-Win Cooperation Awards\' at the Seoul Education Culture Building on the 24th. In these awards, Professor Lee was awarded the \'Iron Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit\', which is rarely awarded to people in the academic sector. The Ministry of Labor said that he was awarded for not only playing a leading role for developing and pursuing theories and policies on local labor-management-civil-government partnerships, but also showing the outstanding leadership skills to actively participate in global arenas such as OECD, IIRA and Global HR Forum to contribute the establishment of a local partnership. Professor Lee is famous for developing theories on the labor market, employment relations and HR development, which is rare for an East Asian. He developed three theories over a time span of 20 years, including the \'Segmented Labor Market Theory\' in 1983, the \'PDR System Theory in 1995\' and \'RESAP (Regional Economic and Social Advancement Partnership) in 2003. Thus, he achieved considerable results in the labor-management field. The RESAP model was published by the OECD in February 2008 and became a focal point of attention internationally. He has also written 20 books and published over 100 papers. In addition, he has also actively attempted to integrate the labor-relation theories in the actual world. As part of this, he worked as the director of the Korea Labor Economic Association, Korea Industrial Relations Association, the chair of the 13th IIRA World Council, and committee member of the \'The Presidential Committee on Job Strategy\'. He is currently an executive director of IIRA Asia, committee member of the Presidential National Economic Advisory Council for the president, committee member of the Minimum Wage Council consigned by the President, president of Daegu-Gyeongbuk Job Creation and Human Resource Development, and the chairman of Daegu-Gyeongbuk Employment Council. Last October he developed the \'10 Major Agenda for Executing Knowledge Economy of Daegu-Gyeongbuk\' and initiated a proclamation ceremony and co-signing by 15 top leaders in labor, management, civil and government sectors, including the mayor of Daegu and governor of Gyeongbuk in order to contribute greatly to form a local partnership. The 10 major agenda is a new paradigm for developing human resources and creating jobs. This is a system based on the industrial-academic-private-public partnership for the local residents and by the local residents that could develop human resources led by the region and create jobs. It is assessed to have presented a local governance initiative. Furthermore, while working as a committee member of the Minimum Wage Council since 2006, he played a decisive role to find a point of agreement for minimum wage rates for 2 continuous years through active talks and persuasion for the establishment of a compromising culture among labor, management, civil and government sectors. Due to these efforts, he also won the individual labor-management harmony award in the \'New Labor Management Culture Awards\' by the Ministry of Labor in December 2004. The \'Labor Win-Win Cooperation Awards\' is an awarding system enacted for the first time this year by the Ministry of Labor, and it presents 99 awards including 16 medals and citations to five sectors such as outstanding local governments, local contributors, as well as company, labor and management representatives. Daegu was awarded a presidential citation and an award of 300 million won together with Jeollanam-do as the best local government organs that pursued development of local labor-management relations and creating jobs.

<BODY style=\"FONT-SIZE: 9pt; MARGIN: 5px; FONT-FAMILY: gulim; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #fff\"> Yeungnam University selects 31 \'WTW\' and 20 \'WTK\' teams 1 million won per person given for Europe and US backpacking travellers during vacation [December 18, 2008] WTW and WTK teams departing for backpacking trip (from front row on the left in counter-clockwise direction: Lee Jeong-yeob, Kupina, Kwon Yong-wook, Doh Hyeon-ji, Nam Hye-ran, Lee Hwa-jeong, Lim Jong-hyeok, Lee Dong-jin, Lee Min-jeong) \"Though the exchange rate sky-rocketed and the economy is doing bad, I really wanted to go backpacking overseas before the graduation. Fortunately, the university will pay for some of the expenses so I will make sure that I will experience as many things as I can and learn as much as I can.\" Lim Jong-hyeok (24) a senior in the School of Architecture at Yeungnam University will be backpacking in Australia early next month. Three months ago, he made a team called \'Studio A+\' with his classmates Lee Dong-jin (24) and Lee Min-jeong (24, female) and made thorough preparations. His team was selected by the university\'s overseas backpacking support programs, and won 3 million won (1 million won per person) by the university. He\'s enjoying every day of his life these days. Being an overseas trip right before going off into the real world, their purpose is quite clear. Fitting to their status as students of architecture, they wish to find plans for urban-branding Daegu through \'public design\'. Public design refers to creating an image of urban sceneries starting from light poles, benches, signs, bus-stops to building facade design and skyline planning. This is because they are convinced that their roles as students of architecture is to present a public design strategy that takes full advantage of the urban identity for Daegu in preparation of the 2011 IAAF World Championships. For this, they are planning to visit Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne, which are the 4 major cities of Australia in 12 days. These are all cities that succeeded in urban-branding through public designs for the Sydney Olympics. Lim stated, \"We will study the 4 major cities of Australia and present public designs unique to Daegu that show the history and rich sentiment of Daegu.\" Thus, Yeungnam University is paying for part of the expenses needed for travels to students who are departing for their \'prepared backpacking trip\'. Starting from this winter break, the university will also provide expenses for backpacking in Korea made up of teams combined with foreign and Korean students. This is for a greater effect in \'Two-Directional Global Education\'. Firstly, \'Window to the World\'(WTW), which has been in place for 6 years, 13th term, is a global program that is best known in Yeungnam University. In the last summer vacation, 93 students in 34 teams received financial support from the university and went on overseas backpacking trips. In this winter vacation, 85 students in 31 teams departed for the US, Europe, Australia, Japan, Southeast Asia and India. There are almost 1,200 students who have experienced the world through the WTW program so far. Yeungnam University gives 600 thousand won per student going to China and Southeast Asia, 800 thousand won per student going to Japan and 1 million won to students going to Europe and the US. Depending on the results of their reports, the 1st place team will be awarded 700 thousand won, 2nd place team 500 thousand won and third place team 300 thousand won as scholarships in order to encourage global experience learning. MESA (Doh Hyeon-ji and 2 students) is composed of female students in the School of Management, and was selected for the WTW and will be heading off to India in January. The title of their trip is \'Exploring India\'s Medical Tourism City\'. Their objective is to search for a plan to distinguish \'Medical City Daegu\'. For this, they will be travelling to distinguished medical tourism cities of India, such as Delhi, Agra, Gurgaon, Mumbai and Chennai for 2 weeks. They will also visit a nursing college in Chennai to examine the current situation of fostering specialized human resources. Doh Hyeon-ji (23, junior in the School of Management) pointed out that \"Medical tourism is a blue-ocean industry that creates 40 billion dollars in profits globally every year. Even in Korea, There is fierce competition for promoting medical tourism in Daegu, Busan, Incheon, Yeosu, Gangneung and Jeju. The problem, however, is that there is no unique feature in the plans for promoting medical tourism in Daegu.\" She also added, \"We should benchmark the successful strategies of India, such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Therapy, etc to find a plan to promote medical tourism in Daegu.\" Meanwhile, Yeungnam University will, for the first time, sponsor the \'Window to Korea\'(WTK) program from this winter break. WTK is a program for providing 300 thousand won in expenses for domestic backpacking trips for teams composed of 1 or more foreign student(s) and 2 Korean students at Yeungnam University. Lee Jeong-yeob (26, junior) of the School of International Economics and Business and Kwon Yong-wook (23, sophomore) of the School of Electronic Engineering, Communication Engineering and Computer Science will explore Seoul with Shefki Kupina (23, junior) of the School of Management on the 21st. Their team name is \'Hello Korea\' and Kupina first came to Korea last September as an exchange student from Sixion University in the Netherlands. Thanks to his \'buddy\' (1:1 friend between Korean and foreign students), Lee Jeong-yeob, he was able to find much help in his school work and felt the warm hospitality of Koreans. However, he still does not know many things about the Korean society. Seoul, where the past, the current and the future of Korea coexists, will help him expand his horizons on the Korean society. Kupina is greatly looking forward to his travels to Seoul. \"In Europe, there is little information and lack of the latest information on different countries and especially on Asia. I also did not know Korea properly,\" said he. He also added, \"I want to experience Korea as much as I can while I\'m here as an exchange student and then when I return to my home, I will share the real fact of Korea.\" Lee, who will join him in his travels to Seoul said, \"My pride was hurt and it was quite shocking that he thought Korea was an under-developed country before he came here as an exchange student.\" He added, \"I want him to learn and feel Korea properly through this opportunity. That\'s why I\'ve been studying the history and culture of Korea for a couple months now. Tong-ki Woo, president of Yeungnam University, at the last academic affairs committee meeting of the year evaluated and decided on major policies for operations in 2009 such as operation regulations of the Chunma Honors College and Enrollment Outlines. Hyo-soo Lee, who is the 13th president-elect of the university was also present at the academic affairs committee meeting. In this academic affairs committee meeting, everyone voted to \'freeze tuition fees\' for 2009. President Tong-ki Woo emphasized that \"Due to the struggling economy there are more students delaying their graduation or not registering for school. Thus it is imperative that we freeze tuition fees in order to do the social responsibilities of the university in such difficult times.\" He added, \"I apologize to the next Executive Board having to pass over the school affairs in such difficult times.\" New president-elect Hyo-soo Lee responded, \"I should actually thank you for discussing such a difficult decision with me in advance and asking for my cooperation.\" He added, \"I will minimize ordinary expenses and use our budget more prudently. However, I hope that all of us will work together to reform the scholarship system so that more scholarships could be given to students who actually need it, while expanding our scholarship resources.\" Discussion and decisions for major issues for the continuity and consistency of university principles In order to help with the smooth transition to the new president, president Woo volunteers to shorten his term by one month Meanwhile, Yeungnam University has opened the door to new possibilities of direct election of its president. Woo and Lee working together to maintain continuity and consistency of university policies. During the academic affairs committee meeting, president Woo and the academic affairs committee members explained the major current issues and future tasks of the university to help new president-elect Lee get a handle on things. New president-elect Lee listened attentively to president Woo and took notes. New president-elect Lee said, \"I came here with the mindset of an intern\" and asked for the help of the experienced academic affairs committee members for administering and managing the university. President Woo also discussed about linking the major policies that he worked on during his term in office such as the Chunma Honors College, Law School and \'Chunma Arts Center\' in commemoration of the 60th year of the university. Construction funds amounted to 5.5 billion won. Yeungnam University Hometown Living Dormitory, which will become the cradle of regional talents, is being constructed through co-efforts of the university and government. The Hometown Living Dormitory will be completed in January and will accommodate 780 students in here in the first semester of next year. In May 2006, Yeungnam University announced the beginning of the \'Hometown Living Dormitory construction project\' with the objective of fostering local talents. In the same month on the 15th, Uiseong-gun became its first project. In 2006, Yeongcheon, Seongju-gun, Chilgok-gun and Goryeong-gun also joined. In 2007, Sangju, Mungyeong, Dalseong-gun, Cheongdo-gun, Andong and Pohang also joined. This year, Gyeongju joined in January, Cheongsong-gun joined in May, Gunwi-gun joined in August, Gimcheon joined in September and Gyeongsan and Gumi joined in October. Finally, on December 17, Uljin-gun also shared their efforts for Yeungnam University Hometown Living Dormitory. Uljin-gun donated 200 million won for construction of the building and Yeungnam University responded by promising priority to 20 students from Uljin-gun during the next semester. President Tong-ki Woo (56) stated, \"This project became possible only because we understood that our region\'s future can only be guaranteed by fostering local talents through the cooperative efforts of regional universities and local government.\" He also added, \"Yeungnam University will cooperate even more assertively with the local community in the future.\" Yeungnam University Hometown Living Dormitory began construction in April last year and it is composed of three buildings with a total area of 17,495㎡.

<BODY style=\"FONT-SIZE: 9pt; MARGIN: 5px; FONT-FAMILY: gulim; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #fff\">[December 4, 2008] A cultural struggle that was left in the clouds for 10 years due to the \'NIMBY\' (not in my backyard) effect and conflicts with various development projects finally found a solution. On the 3rd, Yeungnam University (president Tong-ki Woo) agreed on a donation contract for the moving and restoration of \'Hwasan Seowon\' (photo), which is Gyeongbuk-do cultural property no. 22, with its owner, Indong-Jang family. On this day, Indong-Jang family also donated 100 million won to Yeungnam University. Hwasan Seowon, which is located at Jung-ri, Seokjeok-myeon, Chilgok-gun is a school that was established for fostering students of Jang Gyeong-woo (Manhoedang) in the 21st year of King Hyojong (1651) of the Joseon (also choson, chosun) Dynasty. In the 6th year of Kim Heonjong (1840), the community agreed to move the school to Hwasan at Seonggok-ri, Seokjeok-myeon, Chilgok-gun and erect a shrine for Manhoedang. However, in the 8th year of King Gojong (1871), Confucian memorial halls were ordered to be demolished and now only the auditorium remains. The auditorium has five rooms in the front and three on the side making it a relatively large building and there is a floor-heated room around the well-floor. This displays the architectural style of the later Joseon Dynasty and it has high preservation value. However, because of rapid development around the area due to establishment of new towns, and collapse-threats of the building worsened, it looked for a place to move to for the last 10 years. However, local residents all opposed it from moving to its area and thus, was basically left abandoned. This is because once it is designated as a cultural property, there are various regulations in the region of a 500m radius on building new structures, changing use of buildings, etc. descendants of Indong Jang Manhoedang thus notified Yeungnam University that they wanted to donate the Hwasan Seowon in July 2005. Thus, they visited Yeungnam University and began pursuing the moving of the historic school to the university. In result, a donation contract was agreed upon on today and transfer/restoration projects will soon begin. Through this donation, Hwasan Seowon will move to the west side of the \'Gyeongju Gable Roof House\' at Yeungnam University Gyeongsan Campus. In late December, Yeungnam University will begin the transfer and restoration project and once it is completed, it will be used for traditional culture education for the students.

This workshop is hosted by Yeungnam University and sponsored by Yeungnam University\'s \'Daegyeong Solar Cell/Module Material Process Local Innovation Center\' and the \'Research Institute of Solar Energy\', \'Research Institute of Bio-Energy\', \'BK21 Display Materials and Process Engineering Program - Advanced HR Fostering Project\', \'NURI Display Industry Work Force Cultivation Team\', etc. This workshop will examine the trends of the green energy technologies to solve global warming and exhaustion of coal resources, as well as trends of the new renewable energy technologies such as solar cells, fuel cells, wind energy and bio-energy, while also sharing directions of possible new policies. Yeungnam University expects that this will help accelerate discussions on the roles of companies and colleges for configuring a low-carbon green growth society. In this event, domestic energies experts such as Jeong Chang-hyeon (manager at the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Department of New Renewable Energy), Shin Seong-cheol (Korea Institute of Energy and Resources Technology Evaluation and Planning), Park Seong-hwan (director of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Economy and Science Promotion Department) and Lee Sang-cheol (CEO of Millinetsolar), and as well as prominent foreign scholars such as Timothy J. Coutts (National New Renewable Energy Research Center and winner of the \'Cherry Award\', which is the world\'s highest award in the solar cell sector), Gavin Conibeer (vice-dean of the solar cell and renewable energy engineering department at UNSW of Australia), Philip H. Steele (professor of bio-engineering at Mississippi State University) and Ganti S. Murthy (professor at Oregon State University). Park Jin-ho (50), professor at Yeungnam University School of Display and Chemical Engineering, planned this workshop. He stated, \"this international workshop was planned to be a place for exchanging information and establishing a network for the industry and academic circles in various sectors of the low-carbon green growth technologies\" and also added, \"Yeungnam University is planning to draw the base plans for fostering expert human resources in R&D and academic cooperative education for the new renewable energy sector, while also establishing an \'Energy University\'.\"

Awesome!”, “Where is he from?” Morning of the 1st at Yeungnam University Mechanical Engineering Hall , Songam Hall. The Student Public ambassador for Yeungnam University that was in charge with being the MC of the entrance exam presentation appeared and stirred things up with his welcoming speech. As this 191cm tall, light-skinned handsome student introduced himself as \"Wo si Pan Hao\" small screams could be heard from the girls. There were also cell phone cameras going off here and there. The superstar of Yeungnam University entrance exam presentation is Pan Hao (21), sophomore majoring in management. Born in Luoyang, China, he is an international student who came to Yeungnam University as a freshman in March of last year. Though he did not speak any Korean at first, he studied for a year and a half at Yeungnam University Korean Language Program after graduating from high school. After about two years of college life, his Korean skills improved greatly and he is now able to MC different events. Since September, he has become the 13th \'Yeungnam University Love\', which is the Student Public ambassador for the university. He said, \"It was too bad that many international students were unable to get along with Korean students and that they were too busy trying to adjust to college life that they could not make any decent memories.\" He also boasted, \"I am really proud that I am doing something for our school every day and I really feel like a true member of Yeungnam University.\" Every night before bed, he gets ready on what to say to test-taking students who he will see the next day. He practices his self-introduction in Korean, Japanese and Chinese as well. In order to respond to the student\'s request to show off his talents, he also sings Ahn Jae-wook\'s song, \'Friend\' in a Chinese version. He does all this to leave a lasting impression to prospective new students coming to Yeungnam University. He said, \"When I first started as the MC for this, I was really nervous in front of the prospective students, but now I am relaxed and enjoy the events and joke around with the students.\" He did not forget to act as the Student Public ambassador adding, \"I hope students will expand their dreams for the future at Yeungnam University, which has Korea\'s best campus and a 61 year old tradition.\" Meanwhile, Yeungnam University held enrollment presentations to 23,000 college-entrance exam taking students from the Daegu and Gyeongsan areas from November 17 to the 5th of this month. About 1,500 students from four different high schools visited Yeungnam University every day and the Student Public ambassadors are working hard to recruit students through presentations and campus tours.
